The 2016 U.S Election was one of celebrity endorsement and constant publicity. Celebrities were quick to show support for their preferred candidate and urge young adults to get out and vote. Celebrity endorsements allowed the Presidential Candidates to reach American's that may be out of the loop or unaware of the election. Celebrities are seen as role models and influencer's allowing them to convey their values to their fans without the boredom of Presidential debates and rallies.

SOCIAL MEDIA CULTURE AND IT'S EFFECTS ON THE 2016 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

In just over a year of Trumps presidential campaign he has already racked up over 5 million followers on just his Instagram platform alone, on his twitter he has 25.5 million, has received over 25 million views on his official youtube channel, and has another 21 million supporters on his Facebook page. Collectively on all his social media, platforms president trump has gather upwards of 76 million supporters and viewers. Along with having a professional marking team, trumps antics inspired many internet memes, videos, and websites that unintentionally got the politician globally recognized. 

THE HISTORY OF TRUMPS SOCIAL MEDIA

As the politician started to gain more and more notoriety, the general public quickly became amused with Donald Trumps persona. His tanned skin, toupee like hair, and unforgivable remarks quickly made their way into meme culture. Over the last few years there have been millions of variations of Donald Trump memes created which inevitably helped the politician to move up in the polls. Despite majority of the memes mocking Trump, his tenacity and unforgettable personality managed to sit will with the American public scoring him the winning vote in this presidential election.  

In Trumps exclusive interview with 60 minutes he talks about why he uses social media and how it benefited him throughout his campaign. "Social Media played a key role in my victory" Says Trump tells interviewer Lesley Stahl. His victory offers proof that his social media presence has a huge impact on the American Public. Trump states that he believes this is a great way to communicate and he plans to continue using his social media platforms throughout his presidency.

Its no secret that many celebrities have states their concerns with President Trump. Much of our mainstream media is very liberal and a lot of what Trump stands for doesn't sit will with youtubers, bloggers, and other content creators. Dominant Culture is a culture that applies to a great number of different areas and fields. Simply it is a culture that is the most influential, widespread, or dominant where multiple cultures are present. For US politics, it is obvious that the dominant culture in is the old white male. Men have always dominated politics and no finer example was found than in the US Presidential Election in 2016...

Twenty-three Candidates. Three who weren't white men. Two women. The lack of diversity is not just found in the race for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. A look at the figure to the left speaks volumes. Minorities are consistently under represented, same for women and especially amongst women of colour.
