Trump: The Campaign
The campaign of Donald Trump as the Republican candidate for the United States Presidency conveyed a grass roots candidate that speaks for the salt of the earth Americans. Trump made fantastic and nearly unattainable promises that were embodied in many visual cues. The unusual element to Donald Trump’s campaign is that before he was a candidate he already had a reputation and a brand as a businessman. The image that Trump conveyed during his campaign was a conglomerated image of a successful businessman and a grass roots candidate that is the voice of the American people.
Trump’s logo: The presidential logo and slogan that trump has chosen is very reminiscent of Trump’s business logo. The size of his name conveys dominance, strength, and it is reminiscent of his business logo that it conveys professionalism and is a reassuring sign of commercial success. The “Make America Great Again!” slogan speaks to the grass roots constituents who have felt like they have been overseen by the previous administration; the slogan has an aura of dreamy hope.
TRUMP: THE TYRANT
Beyond the images that Trump wanted the American people to believe in, his critics depicted him in a polarizing opposite way, the image that critics and many media outlets portray Trump as a racist, authoritative, liar, isolationist, and a destructive force for American politics. Trump was also painted as a poor businessman, using examples of his failed casino in Atlantic City. Trump has also been visually victimized in the media such as on “SNL” and many late shows, Trump is constantly depicted as empty headed and hysterically insensible.
